Two Causes May Fail and Troubleshoot Mechanical Seals


What are the troubleshooting methods for mechanical seals? What caused the failure of mechanical seals?

  The first reason is that the mechanical seal static ring anti-rotation pin blocking is caused by the uneven composition during machining and the larger shear force at the start of the compressor.

  The second reason is that the static ring o-ring interference of mechanical seals is large.

The mechanical seal plan adopts stop-type planning, the compensation ring uses graphite rings, the pump uses separate mechanical seals, and the non-indemnifying ring uses metal spraying ceramics, and the compensation ring seal ring uses O-rings.

It is well known that the main advantages of packing seals are the simple structure and low cost. Therefore, the utility model has a wide range of applications, and the shortcomings are short service life and poor sealing performance.

The cause of the failure of the filler and its elimination can be repaired according to the following methods:

The outer surface of the packing is scratched, and it may be because the outer diameter of the packing is too small. This can be solved by checking the packing box and the packing size.

Fillers are squeezed into the gap between the shaft (or valve stem) and the retaining ring or shaft (or valve stem) and the gland, mostly because the designed clearance is too large or eccentric. This can be solved by reducing the gap and checking the concentricity.

Leakage of the media along the packing gland is due to improper packing or broken rings. First check the condition of the retaining ring and reinstall it.

The packing close to the gland is too tight, due to improper packing. Should be carefully reinstalled.

The packing ring squeezes into the adjacent ring because the packing ring is cut too short. Can be solved by replacing the correct size packing. 

There is severe wear or scratches along the shaft (or stem) in the shaft due to lubrication failure or internal impurities. The packing with lubricant should be replaced or filled with a ring of filler capable of replenishing the lubricant, and the packing box should be carefully cleaned.

Leakage is too large to adjust. This is because the filler swells or breaks or the filler is cut short or the assembly is incorrect or the lubricant is washed away or eccentric. The concentricity of the shaft or valve stem can be checked by replacing the packing that resists the action of the sealing liquid.

The coking or blackening of the filler is due to lubrication failure. Fillers with appropriate lubricant should be replaced or filled with a ring of filler that can replenish the lubricant.
