Compared with packing seals, mechanical seals have the following advantages:

1, reliable sealing, long-term operation, the seal is very stable, the leakage is very small, according to rough statistics, the leakage is generally only 1/100 of the packing seal;

2, long service life in oil, water-based media generally up to 1 to 2 years or more, the rational use of the medium in the coal preparation, usually can be more than a year;

3, friction power consumption is small, the mechanical seal friction power is only 10% to 50% of the packing seal;

4, the shaft or sleeve is basically free from wear;

5, long maintenance cycle, after the end of wear can be automatically compensated, under normal circumstances, the need for regular maintenance;

6. Good anti-vibration performance, insensitive to the vibration, yaw of the rotating shaft and the deflection of the shaft to the sealed chamber;

7, a wide range of applications, mechanical seals can be used for low temperature, high temperature, vacuum, high pressure, different speeds, and a variety of corrosive media and abrasive media, such as the seal.

But its disadvantages are:

1, the structure is more complex, high requirements on the manufacturing process;

2, installation and replacement is more troublesome, and requires workers to have a certain level of installation technology;

3. When accidental accidents occur, handling is more difficult;

4, one-time investment is higher. According to the comparison of the two kinds of seals, the mechanical seal of the slurry pump of DongPang Coal Preparation Plant adopts a combination of an auxiliary impeller and a mechanical seal to seal the seal structure. The quality of the seal has been fundamentally improved. When the pump is running, the auxiliary impeller and the mechanical seal work together to ensure that there is no leakage; when the pump is stopped, there is a mechanical seal to ensure no leakage.

Therefore, no matter if the pump is running or stopped, no leakage occurs, and the bushing is not worn, and no packing change is required. When the pump is running, it does not use high-pressure shaft sealing water, and the on-site working environment has been greatly improved, which reduces the burden on maintenance workers and fundamentally solves the problems that plagued production.
