What are the methods of installation and operation of mechanical seals for reactors?

Whenever something goes wrong, sealability will be affected. The mechanical seal can be divided into two major categories of seals and their conditions of use. Sealing structure, materials and manufacturing belong to the 'seal itself'. These factors are done in the factory and the quality of the seal depends on the manufacturer. The installation, the nature of the media, and the use of the media are within the scope of the ‘use conditions’. How to use it properly depends on the user.

Some points needing attention in installation and operation of mechanical seal in esterification reactor


    Esterification reactor for the installation of mechanical seal mechanical pump seal volume and operation. It has a very important influence on the operating life of the sealing device. When the multi-spring type mechanical seal is installed, it is necessary to prevent the spring from warping so as to ensure that the mechanical seal has a suitable compression amount. Generally, the compression amount of the single-end surface seal is 4-6 mm, and the compression amount of the double-end surface seal is double that of the single-end surface seal. That is, take 8-12mm. Excessive compression will not only increase the PV value of the sealing face, but will also cause the spring stress to rise, thereby accelerating the fatigue failure of the spring. Therefore, in adjusting the compression of the spring, it should be strictly in accordance with the requirements of the process.


    2) To prevent dry friction caused by friction pairs. Because the operating temperature of the esterification reactor and the mechanical seal pressure of the kettle are both high, the working conditions of the friction pair are very severe. When the temperature is above 300 °C. Lubricating media are prone to gasification. Once the lubricant film between the friction pairs is damaged, dry friction will occur, resulting in damage to the sealing surface. Therefore, ensuring the smooth flow of flushing oil in the esterification reactor is an important measure to prevent dry friction.


    3) Wear is an important cause of sealing failure in high-temperature esterification reactors. The unevenness of the frictional end face or the generation of thermal deformation, impurities in the medium causing the friction pair to have abrasive particles, etc., will cause early wear of the sealing end face, so choose a reasonable dynamic and static ring material and select the appropriate clean cooling lubricant medium. Reducing the load factor of the end face to prevent the seal from generating thermal deformation can effectively increase the service life of the seal.
